Where are ERC codes assigned to items?

On MTO charts

On the unit roster

On MTOEs

ERC codes are tied to the unit’s authorized equipment set and are defined where that set is documented and controlled—the MTOE. The MTOE specifies what equipment a unit is allowed to have and includes the readiness/maintenance posture for each item, which is captured by the ERC. This makes the MTOE the authoritative source for how items are to be managed, repaired, and replenished at the unit level.

The other places serve different roles: MTO charts show how the unit is organized, the unit roster lists personnel and units, and the supply catalog provides general item data across the Army but does not assign unit-specific readiness codes. Therefore, the ERC for a given item is established in the MTOE, reflecting the unit’s authorized equipment and its maintenance/repairability posture.
